LIFE HAPPENS

Getting Married

Congratulations on your nuptials! With a new spouse, you’ll need to decide whether you want to cover them under your Peraton benefits. In addition, there are several other benefits and programs they can participate in because they’re now part of your family. You’ll also want to consider whether your spouse has other coverage available to them, like under their employer’s plan. Ask yourself these questions as you begin to navigate your benefits:

Compare your spouse’s medical, dental and vision plan designs and cost with your Peraton health plans and decide which ones best meet the needs of you and your family.

Carefully estimate eligible healthcare expenses for your spouse when deciding whether to participate in or increase your contributions to your Healthcare FSA or HSA. Keep in mind that you can roll over up to $610 in unused FSA funds that remain in your account at the end of the year. And be sure to factor in whether your spouse is already contributing to a Healthcare FSA. HSA funds will roll over from year to year.

You must re-enroll in your HSA during Annual Enrollment each year; HSA contributions can also be adjusted throughout the year.

Review your life and AD&D coverage options and decide if you want to purchase insurance for your spouse. Note that if you enroll for coverage during a life event, your spouse will not have to provide evidence of insurability (EOI) for coverage up to $50,000; amounts over $50,000 require EOI. If you want to enroll or increase coverage after your life event, EOI will be required.

Since you have a new spouse, be sure to review your current beneficiaries for your life and AD&D insurance and make desired changes on the Peraton Benefits & Beyond Enrollment Portal, powered by bswift. You can review and update your 401(k) retirement savings plan beneficiaries on Fidelity’s website. Beneficiaries may be updated at any time.

Visit the Peraton Benefits & Beyond Enrollment Portal, powered by bswift to review and make changes to your benefits due to your marriage life event. Be sure to have your marriage certificate, your spouse’s date of birth and Social Security Number handy. Changes must be made within 60 days from the date of marriage.
